re:Turn
Developed for the 2010 mLearnCon Conference, re:Turn was a Pervasive Learning Experience (PLE) intended to teach participants about the usefulness of common mobile phone technologies such as Short Message System (SMS) and voice in mobile learning environments.
Players were introduced to the game through a video posted on YouTube and had to find clues that would help the main character of the game escape from Qatar and expose the plot of a multi-national corporation that was plotting to overthrow the government. To further the story, readily available resources such as Facebook, Twitter and Blogger.com were used to build a history and as channels through which clues were released.
The "clues" were articles and reference data that centered around the use of SMS, voice and other common systems in educational environments that demonstrated different ways these technologies could be used. To reinforce the point, clues could be entered though a SMS system integrated into the Avenue portal platform further demonstrating the viability of the technology. Additionally, users never had to use a traditional computer as Avenue allows the entire platform to be accessed through iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices.
